About Me

My name is David and I am a doctoral candidate in the Strategy department at Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. I will be joining the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as an Assistant Professor in the Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and International Business Area starting in Fall 2024.

My research explores corporate strategy in the platform economy. Specifically, I study how platforms’ strategies (e.g., governance, diversification, acquisition) influence complementor activities across platforms and business segments.

Empirically, I focus on the rideshare and food delivery businesses and leverage multiple datasets including 1.3 billion trips made by taxicabs and rideshare services in New York City or 10 billion transactions made from 28 million credit/debit cards in the U.S.

My research has been recognized by Strategic Research Foundation (SRF) Dissertation Grant.

Other than research, I like re-watching Friends series, running, and soccer. I am also a big fan of EDM festivals.
